A Little Chemistry

Zwitterion was derived from the German word "zwitter" - meaning hybrid. A zwitterion os a chemical compound that is electrically neutral but carries formal positive and negative charges on different atoms. Zwitterions are polar and usually have a high solubility in water and poor solubility in most organic solvents.

Incidentally, Zwitterion was the name we chose for our ChemSoc batch. We were composed of 11 girls and 11 boys. The girls being the postive charges and the boys the negative charges. Since we're equal in number, thus,  it makes us neutral. Water, also known as the universal solvent because  most compounds dissolve in it,  represents the our society. We zwitters know how to blend in (or dissolve) with the people around us. Thus, the high solubility.

I guess I just ran out of ideas to write about in this blog. Anyway, I just want to relive the days when we were still "applicants" of ChemSoc. It was really fun! One of the most memorable times in my college life. Something that I guess I will be bringing with me for the rest of my life.

To those who don't know Yeng Constantino…she is the grand prize winner of ABS-CBN's pinoy dream academy (PDA). She is responsible for the hit songs Hawak Kamay, Salamat, and Pangarap Lang. She wrote the lyrics and created the melody for both Hawak Kamay and Salamat. She is that talented! Time In is a song from her first album, Salamat.
